Apple is in early talks with Google to use its Gemini AI models to power a major update to Siri.
This follows delays in Siri’s overhaul, originally announced at WWDC 2024, due to engineering challenges.
🔍 Competing AI Models
Apple is conducting an internal “bake-off” between:
Linwood: Siri powered by Apple’s own AI models.
Glenwood: Siri powered by external models like Gemini.
Apple has also explored partnerships with Anthropic (Claude) and OpenAI (ChatGPT), though financial terms with Anthropic were reportedly a sticking point.
☁️ Technical Setup
If Apple chooses a third-party model, it will likely run on Private Cloud Compute servers using Mac chips—meaning the new Siri won’t operate directly on devices.
🤖 Broader AI Strategy
These talks are separate from Apple’s existing use of ChatGPT in Apple Intelligence for handling complex queries.
Apple has confirmed interest in a similar partnership with Google for chatbot integration.
